Demo for how the recipes would work

Prerequisites before create the posts
I created a 8 Categories – using colours (red, blue, etc) to simulate “your meal types”

1 parent category = Recipes
I then created posts assigning a random selection of categories to each post, each post simulates a single recipe. (I’ve since rename one category name from black to Veggie.) see

FYI :

141

Fake posts have been created to simulate recipes

Index page (V1

Page build is a grid of posts from one singe Category = Recipes
for this work – all recipes must to have the category recipe set
The Title “Category : Recipes” can be hidden. (left visible on the demo site)
The sort order by default and cannot be changed is by date (new – old)
i needed to install a plugin to set to order to A-Z
there is no limit on the number of recipes that can be listed/displayed in the 5 columns.

The Index page (alt)

page build = 3 columns each with a “Query Loop Block” and a pagination section

The layout of each column
1, uses a thumbnail of the post (optional)
2, displays the title of the post, clickable (simulates a recipe)
3, Sort order A-Z
4, The 3 columns shows 36 posts:
click Next and the posts slide over one column, 3rd column is refreshed with 12 posts and so on until you run out of posts, probably : zebra cookies:-)

Pages using a category (red, green, etc)

following a few issue on search results suing lastest post block, most of the links in the logged in menu – have been replaced with catergory seatch, I have also changes a few of the colours to a real meal types.
For the production site I will use this new format.

Page build, The latest post block has limitations, however, it can be used in a few situations where there are a few posts (News and Testimonials) The Latest post Block, can be filtered to display posts that belong to a single (one) category
In a one column List or with Grid layout, in 2 or more columns with either 2 or more columns (Looks best with 3, 4 or 5 (quickly changed))
The post the Title automaticaly has clickable ink to the post
optional, A clickable link can be added to the thumbnail.
I choose Sort order A-Z
(3 other sort options are : newest to oldest : oldest – newest : Z-A

Note Latest post block has a MAX limit to display 100 posts (this could be an issue when you have several thousand recipes, as there is no option to add pagination.
The Query Loop block(s) can be configured to display the post in more or less the same layout but requires more effort to set it up.(as per the the index page this has 100 limit with pagination that increases to 200)

Test Login Accounts

user accounts created

  • login name = “Nate” with your NDA email address + I think your normal password
    • I used this version of your NDA password 2…!!a
    • Role as per your NDA account;
  • login name
  • login name = “qwerty” (with a bourian email address)
    • the same version of your NDA password = 2…!!a
    • Role = Member

Sliders

After testing out several sliders, the one you found “Smart Slider 3” well, it just works. But it has one big downside – it’s slow down the page loads on the pages its used on. I don’t recommend you place one on the Home Page. Other then that use with care.

  1. I created the category Testimonials
  2. Assigned some of the fake post to use only this category.
  3. Created a testimonial page
added 2 Sliders – filtered to use only the Testimonials category
  4. page has side bar – the demonstrates how (narrow and how not (full width) to setup sliders
